The Great Unhearing [Excerpt]

By fc on September 7, 2014 12:14 pm

This is a short excerpt of an installation piece that will be opening on Tuesday the 9th of September. All sounds are derived from piezo sensor and field recordings taken in the System Garden at the University of Melbourne, Vic, AU. The installation will be within an old tower, using surface exciting speakers to create a giant resonating chamber out of the tower itself. It will run for about ten days, excluding weekends. Closing party on the following Thursday for anyone is in Melbourne and wants to come.

Fascinating as your work so often is; wish I could be there. :-)

Wish I could see it in its context. Ear piercing frequencies in some moments, man. You are like the bat of Weeklybeats, with all those frequencies above 12000 Hz on your tunes wink

Maybe a video of the installation would be nice too, isn't it?

Ah, what is wrong with those frequencies!? They are in our audible/experiential range, so I reckon they're up for grabs for artistic use! I'll make a video of the test run today.

very fascinating stuff! Would love to see thie installation in motion, so please let me know when a video will be available. Love your experiments!

Let us all know when we can check out that vid! Interesting stuff per usual!

Very intriguing sounds and atmosphere, looking forward to the video.

Alien atmosphere. Would love to be in that tower. Does it help with unhearing, then? Did you find a cure? :-)

quite disorienting! great sound quality as always. It is both soothing and triggering my tinnitus!

Videos are frustratingly brief. So the window panes are in effect the speakers?

Yeah, sorry about that. I just didn't want to fill my phone with video footage. I'm kind of hoping the curator gets some better video footage of it.
The window panes are speakers, yeah. The whole space resonates though.

Guess I'd have to be there then, like when there was an installation of Lucier's "Music on a Long Thin Wire" in an Albuquerque shopping mall.

I would have loved to experience that.

Yeah trouble with even video (and another reason I didn't record for longer) is that the detail is quite... delicate. So my clumsy iPhone mic just wouldn't do it justice.

Sorry man.

Amazing sounds there!
